Public meeting Thursday to discuss 10 Mile Road expansion

Public meeting Thursday to discuss 10 Mile Road expansion

The Kent County Road Commission will hold a public meeting on Thursday, March 31st on the Draft Environmental Statement for the project to widen 10 Mile Road.

The project would widen the roadway to 5 lanes between Wolven Avenue and Childsdale Avenue.

The expansion is meant to deal with the increased traffic volume and congestion created by population growth and development in Algoma Township, Courtland Township and the City of Rockford.

The public hearing will take place at Resurrection Life Church at 3233 10 Mile Road from 5pm to 7pm Thursday evening.  A court reporter will be available for anyone wishing to have their comments included in the official transcript for the public hearing.

You may have noticed utility crews at work on 10 Mile Road near Wolven.

DTE is in the process of replacing a high pressure gas main. Roger Royer from DTE says work crews are removing a 4" line and replacing it with an 8" line to accomodate higher demand in the Rockford area.

The work will also move the gas line in anticipation of the project to widen 10 Mile Road from Wolven Avenue to Childsdale Avenue, which is expected to start after the 4th of July and should be completed before the year’s end.

Kent County Road Commission Deputy Director Steve Warrren says there is still one more meeting planned on the environmental assessment report.  That meeting will take place March 31st at Resurrection Life Church.

A final public hearing on the 10 Mile expansion project will then take place April 12th at the Road Commission board Room.
