News Release:

Grand Rapids – April 4, 2011 – Being on top of fashion trends while choosing styles that will sell in cost-conscious West Michigan is a tricky proposition, but one that Julie Cronkright, owner of Jade – a women’s clothing boutique in Rockford – has been doing successfully for eight years. “West Michigan women love to be fashionable but will think twice about a purchase if the price point is too high.  So, I make sure that what I select for Jade shoppers combines the fashion trends that my customers love at an affordable price,” Cronkright says.

Jade also showcases styles and designers that women won’t find in the national-chain, “big box,” stores at malls. “Women complain to me all the time that they want clothes they won’t see coming and going half a dozen times when they’re out and about,” explains Cronkright. “I take care of that by only having two sizes in any one piece, whether it’s a top, a sweater, or skirts and dresses.”

So, what’s hot this Spring? “Lace and crochet is really big,” says Cronkright. “The very open, airy looks – crocheted sweaters in wide knits and lace that has an almost vintage feel in white, pale pink, ivory, soft beige and black. Skinny jeans are being overshadowed with wide-leg jeans and trousers, according to Cronkright. “While dominating the scene for the last couple of years, the skinny jean is making way for the wider leg and it’s a welcome change. It is much more flattering and works on most body types because a wider, fuller leg gives the illusion of a smaller waist.”

The military-inspired trends continue strong into spring with cargo pants, military jackets and trench coats as key styles, and shades of olive and tan as important colors in this category. Prints are very popular as well – everything from feminine florals, to bold animal prints, to showy stripes and graphics. “And nothing says spring like a bright floral skirt or scarf,” Cronkright adds.

Cronkright says to look for these additional hot, fashionable trends:

  • Skirts with a long silhouette and flowing tops with dolman sleeves that feel light and breezy for spring.
  • Nautical looks are hot – striped navy and white dresses, or tops paired with wide-leg sailor trousers.
  • Soft, feminine colors are popular, particularly beige, dusty pink, mint green and pale peach.
  • Dresses continue to be very popular in all styles and the one-shouldered dress trend continues.

In accessories, Cronkright advises bright colors – “turquoise and coral are big along with paler hues of pink or blush, which you’ll see on everything from shoes and handbags to scarves and jewelry.”

Known for specializing in contemporary women’s fashions and accessories, Jade in downtown Rockford continues to offer many of its usual designer lines such as Joe’s Jeans, Michael Stars and Miss Me, but Cronkright enjoys discovering new designer lines to add an element of surprise for customers.

“I’m buying everyday,” added Cronkright. “When I’m not shopping trade shows, I’m still continuously in contact with designers to find the latest in cute, unique items at good price points. I even shop on my days off, ever mindful of what’s new in fashion.”
