GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-- Crash’s Landing & Big Sid’s Sanctuary invite the community to help rescued cats Wednesday, Aug. 27 by picking up a pizza.

Print a flyer from Crash's Landing's website and present it to employees at any of the 14 participating Pizza Hut locations Wednesday to donate 20 percent of your total bill to Crash’s Landing & Big Sid’s Sanctuary.  The benefit runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Aug. 27 and includes dine-in, carry out or delivery orders.

The flyer has the list and addresses of the 14 participating Pizza Hut locations in the Grand Rapids area.

Michigan State Police add a dozen police dogs to their force

ROCKFORD, Mich.-- A dozen new German shepherds are now working to keep Michigan communities safe.

The dogs graduated from the Michigan State Police 2013 Basic Canine School last week.    Four of the teams will replace police dogs that have retired; the remaining eight teams are in addition to current force numbers. The MSP Rockford Post will be getting Shep and his handler, Trooper Michael Bush.

This graduating class brings the total number of MSP canine teams to 49—a historic high for the department. Each police dog is trained in tracking suspects, detecting drugs and explosives, searching buildings, areas and property, as well as obedience.  The 14-week program also includes more than 100 hours of instruction for handlers.

Rockford dogs invited to Bark for Life April 27

ROCKFORD, Mich. – Rockford area dogs are joining the fight against cancer.

The American Cancer Society Bark for Life is Saturday, April 27.  Registration for the non-competitive dog walk begins at 8:30 a.m. The proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society, for cancer research and to support cancer patients.

Bark for Life begins at the White Pine Trail entrance near the Wolverine Footwear Depot and ends at the Rockford Dog Park near Richardson Sowerby Park.  The event ends at noon Saturday.
