ROCKFORD, Mich. (WZZM) - What is considered the world's most famous diner, is on the auction block.
Rosie's Diner became an icon when it hit the airwaves across the country in the 1970's. It was featured in a commerical for Bounty Paper Towls.
The diner is based in Rockford and will be sold along with the other two diners on the property, "Uncle Bob's Diner" and "Garden of Eaten," which was once based in New York will be auctioned off. The plan is to sell all of the diners on the property to one bidder.
Part of the deal requires the winning bidder to keep all the diners in the same location, because the intention is to operate a historic landmark.
Rosie's has been based in Rockford for 21 years, and closed last October without notice.
The owner told employees the restaurant was closing for improvements, but then moved out most of the equipment and changed the locks.
All the bidding today will be done online. The president of Last Bid Real Estate hopes to reach a broad audience and see competitive bidding from across the world.
