GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - A global footwear company opened a new shop in downtown Grand Rapids just eight months ago, and already, The Wolverine Company Store has picked up a host of national retail design and marketing awards.
It's a story we bring you, along with our partners the Grand Rapids Business Journal.
The Wolverine Company Store won "Top Retail Store Design" by Chain Store Age Magazine, as well as a Gold ADDY from the American Advertising Federation of West Michigan and a design award from the Association of Retail Environments.
The proprietor of the small shoe store, Wolverine WorldWide Inc. in Rockford, says the design concept draws from the past. The store includes reclaimed or repurposed items.
"It's nice to not only have the products and those pieces to be able to utilize, but to just to be able to reclaim them and salvage them and to continue carrying that product on for years to come is pretty amazing," said Brian Cousins, owner of the Grand Rapids store. "I think that's one of the really neat things is the store itself and the history that's truly there. Sometimes when people come in, I feel more like a tour guide."
