The Rockford blood drive is coming up

It's time to roll up your sleeve and give!

Michigan Blood will be holding a blood drive at the Rockford Community Cabin at 220 N Monroe on Monday, August 1st.

You can donate from Noon to 7pm Monday.

Donors will receive free hot dogs from The Dam Dogs, along with the good feelings knowing that you've helped to save a life.

Giving blood takes about 40 minutes for registration, health screening, donating and then resting afterward.

You can give every 8 weeks if you are health, age 17 or older (or 16 with a parent or guardian's signature) and weight at least 110 pounds.

The Numbers Are In: Rockford Relay Another Huge Success

Rockford lived up to its reputation over the weekend and held yet another successful Relay for Life event to benefit The American Cancer Society.  The 24-hour fundraising event raised $340,154.60!  Beyond raising money, Relay gives participants a reason to celebrate survival, and hope for a future that is free of cancer.  There were similar Relays held in communities throughout West Michigan over the weekend, including East Grand Rapids, Forest Hills/Cascade amd Comstock Park.

Rockford Varsity Baseball Team offers clinic for young players

You can pre-register now for a Hitting, Fielding, Throwing, Catching and Running clinic that will be conducted by the Rockford Varsity Baseball Team for children from third grade to sixth grade.

The clinic will take place at East Rockford Middle School March 5th and 26th and North Rockford Middle School March 12th and 19th.

The clinic for 3rd and 4th graders will take place from 9am-10am, while 5th and 6th graders will participate from 10:15am to 11:15am.

Registration will begin 20 minutes before each session.  Participants must bring their own glove and wear gym shoes.

The $60 fee includes instruction and a t-shirt.

3rd Annual Health & Fitness Festival on Jan. 29th

 

Rockford Community Services is holding the 3rd Annual Health & Fitness Festival at North Rockford Middle School on Saturday, Jan. 29th form 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Discover healthy cooking demonstrations, fitness training, healthy living resources and much more. Get your kids ready for "Dashing Through the Snow"

"Dashing Through the Snow" is quickly approaching on January 29th.

The half-mile winter fun run will be raced in groups by elementary school.  The school with the most participation will win a trophy naming them the winner of the "Healthy Challenge" 2011.

Children in grades K-5 can participate.  The $8.00 entry fee includes a t-shirt.

The run will take place on Saturday, January 29th from 1:30 to 3:30pm at the North Rockford Middle School track.
