America's Favorite Farmers Market returns this Saturday for encore season

America's Favorite Farmers Market returns this Saturday for encore season

On the wings of victory from winning the 2011 America's Favorite Farmers Markets contest, the Rockford Farm Market (RFM) proudly sails into its second decade.

Since its opening day, the first Saturday of June in 2002, RFM has developed a cult-like word-of-mouth following in the greater Rockford community. In many ways it was Rockford's best kept secret.

All that changed with the Market's entrance, last year, into the prestigious farmer's markets contest sponsored by the America Farmland Trust (AFT). Not only did RFM win its small market category (16-30 vendors), it also received more votes than ANY other single farm market in any category (boutique, small, medium, and large). In doing so, RFM truly could lay claim to the title "America's Favorite Farmers Market/2011".

Safe way to get rid of unwanted medication

Safe way to get rid of unwanted medication

What’s in your medicine cabinet?  Do you have bottles of old medication?  Flushing the pills down the toilet or throwing them in the trash pose potential safety and health hazards.  There is another way to get rid of unwanted prescription drugs in Kent County.

On October 28, 2011, from  8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Kent County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.  Bring your medications for disposal to Kent County Sheriff’s Office at 701 Ball Ave NE.  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

This effort is part of the Nationwide Prescription Drug "Take-Back” Day.
