Rockford once again collecting yard waste

Rockford once again collecting yard waste

The City of Rockford is once again collecting yard waste.

The city has been split into four zones, with weekly collections Tuesdays through Fridays based on where you live in the city. Click here to see the collection map.

Waste collection is only available for city taxpayers.  Leaves, grass clippings and plant and garden waste must be bagged in biodegradable brown paper bags.  Plastic bags and unbagged waste will not be picked up.

Yard waste collection runs until about December 1st or the first accumulating snowfall.

Larger items such as shrubs and small trees will be collected on an as-needed basis.  Contact City Hall at 866-1537 to schedule a collection appointment.

The ski area says it will reopen Tuesday at 4pm with late season hours the remainder of the week.

Belmont Company Helps Retirement Community Save $92k in Energy Costs

Belmont Company Helps Retirement Community Save $92k in Energy Costs

The building management and residents at Clark Retirement Community in Grand Rapids, MI, are feeling good for a lot of reasons.  They’ve partnered with Hurst Mechanical (Belmont, MI) to make a commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability and the pay-off has been more than they imagined (or asked for).

The journey began when Hurst Mechanical performed an energy benchmark for Clark Retirement Community (Clark) in early 2012.  The 106-year-old building scored 12 out of 100 on the ENERGY STAR rating scale.  Mike Ignatoski, Clark’s Director of Capital Projects and Facilities, was already taking steps to make changes to the buildings, but was surprised to find out how much room Clark had for improvement.
