ROCKFORD, Mich. (Trout Unlimited)-- This is your last chance to sign up for this 3-day public journey of discovery to experience conditions and opportunities of Michigan’s Rogue River and its watershed.

 It will be held June 19 through the 21st.  The Expedition team will travel by land, canoes, and kayaks, and provide demonstrations, interactive displays, and exhibits in communities along the Rogue River.

My Town: Cannon Township to consider fracking regulations

CANNON TOWNSHIP, Mich.--  Cannon Township board members are considering amending township ordinances to regulate hydraulic fracturing, better known as “fracking.”

Fracking is a process that pumps water and chemicals into the ground to extract natural gas from below the surface.

Monday, the township invited oil and gas representatives from Rockford-based Trendwell Energy Corp. and API Energy to provide additional information about the fracking process, as well as address any concerns or questions. The township was previously in contact with a water conservation group that opposes fracking.

My Town: Student Great Lakes protection projects on display May 14

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—  High School students from six area districts will showcase their efforts to protect the Grand River watershed and the Great Lakes during the Groundswell Student Showcase May 14.

Grand Valley State University is showcasing the exhibit, which provides hands-on environmental learning for students throughout Kent County.  The projects will be on display on the big screen and in the Beacon Lobby at Celebration Cinema North in Grand Rapids.

My Town: Cannon Spring Community Cleanup May 1-3

CANNON TOWNSHIP, Mich.— Cannon Township residents finishing up their spring cleaning have a free resource to help clear out their homes. 

The 2014 Cannon Spring Community Cleanup will take place May 1-3 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  inside the Cannon Township parking lot.  Residents can drop off general household items including appliances, scrap metal and large batteries for free.  Proof of residency is required.

Mattresses and box springs will cost $15 each and whole tires are $10 each.  Hazardous materials, liquids, brush and yard waste will not be accepted.  Fencing must be folded or rolled up, empty fuel tanks must be cut in half and cleaned out, tires must be cut up and latex paints must be hardened prior to disposal.

Macatawa Bank Hosts Recycling Days April 21-25

 

HOLLAND, Mich., April 8, 2014 –Macatawa Bank is partnering with local West Michigan businesses, Rapid Shred & Comprenew to host a free event for the public to securely destroy documents and electronics. The event will take place during earth week, April 21-25.

Recycling Days will be held:

Monday, April 21: 4-6pm – Macatawa Bank, 41 North State St., Zeeland Tuesday, April 22: 4-6pm – Macatawa Bank, 1575 68th St., Grand Rapids Wednesday, April 23: 4-6pm – Macatawa Bank, 3177 Knapp St. NE, Grand Rapids Thursday, April 24: 4-6pm – Macatawa Bank, 12415 Riley St., Holland Friday, April 25: 4-6pm – Macatawa Bank, 3191 44th St., SW, Grandville

Along with the Rapid Shred Truck and Comprenew, Macatawa Bank’s famous Mac Snack Wagon will be at each location serving snacks and handing out water from another local partner, Boxed Water is Better. Recycle totes will go to the first 25 people at each location.
