Rockford Police advise residents to beware of door-to-door solicitations

This advisory was released tonight by the Rockford Police Department concerning door-to-door solicitations:

The Rockford Police Department would like to remind residents that solicitors must obtain a permit from City Hall prior to selling items door to door in the City.

If you have someone approach your house please ask to see their permit prior to purchasing items from them. Checking for someone's permit will help protect you from fraudulent vendors.

If a solicitor does not have a permit contact the police department immediately. It is helpful to obtain a description of the individual and what direction they leave your house.

Algoma Township weapons complaint

Algoma Township weapons complaint

From the Kent County Sheriffs Department -  On April 10, 2011 at 7:23 PM, deputies responded to a weapons complaint in the 9700 block of Sunset Ridge Dr NE. This is located in the Saddle Ridge housing development in Algoma Township.  Residents living there found that a rifle bullet had gone through their exterior wall and into an unoccupied bedroom.  On April 12, the neighborhood was canvassed by Kent County Community Policing and Michigan Department of Natural Resources officers.  It was discovered that two other houses in the neighborhood had also been hit by bullets.

Through their investigation, it was determined that three Rockford area men had fired the bullets from an AK-47 rifle and a .30 X .30 caliber rifle while target shooting at the Rogue River Extension Area, located one half mile from the homes damaged.  They have been cited for misdemeanor Reckless Discharge of a Firearm.
