My Town: Kent County Health Department names 2014 Food Safety Award winners

KENT COUNTY, Mich.—If you’re looking for a clean, safe place to dine out this weekend, the Kent County Health Department has some suggestions- 471 of them, actually.

The KCHD recently announced the winners of its 2nd annual Food Safety Awards.  This year’s 471 winners were selected from more than 1700 licensed facilities that were inspected through 2013.    To qualify, each establishment had to meet the following criteria:

ROCKFORD, Mich.--  Get ready to fire up those grills, as the annual Grillapalooza returns to Rockford May 3.

Hosted by Herman’s Boy Coffee Ranch, the event begins at 10 a.m. and will feature grilling demonstrations, food samples and performances by a range of local artists.  This year’s Grillapalooza will showcase the Rockford Community orchestra, band and choir, the Rogue River Artists, the Rogue River Community Theatre Company, the North Kent Camera Club and the School of Rockford Ballet.  Visitors can also check out the Artist’s Market and enjoy family friendly activities organized by the Rogue River Artists Association.  Artists will be on site creating paintings and drawings for immediate sale.

A Big Green Egg Grill & Smoker donated by Herman’s Boy will be raffled off at 3 p.m., with all of the proceeds going to a new arts center in Rockford.  Organizers say they’ve already sold most of the 200 available raffle tickets.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Davenport University)-- Blake W. Krueger, Chairman, CEO and President of Wolverine World Wide, Inc., will serve as Davenport University’s 2014 Commencement Speaker at ceremonies to be held Sunday April 27, 2014, at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids.  At the event, where more than 2,000 Davenport graduates from across the state of Michigan will celebrate their new degrees, Krueger will be presented with an Honorary Doctorate degree by the university.  Kreuger will also be honored with Davenport University’s highest honor, the Peter C. Cook Excellence in Business Award, in May of 2014.

(Kent County Administration) – Businesses and residents in Kent County are in good hands fiscally. Kent County remains financially strong, according to rating agencies Standard & Poor’s (S&P) and Moody’s Investors Service. Both agencies affirmed the long-term Triple-A credit ratings– the highest possible – for the County. This represents the 16th consecutive year that Kent County has held the long-term Triple-A ratings from both agencies. Both S&P and Moody’s also affirmed the highest short-term credit ratings available for the County. S&P noted that Kent County has a history of strong financial management and commitment to meeting financialobligations. COMSTOCK PARK, Mich.—A 114-year-old family business is expanding beyond the lakeshore.

West Michigan Roofing & Construction’s newest branch is located at 3736 West River Drive NE in Comstock Park.  The new location is managed by Edward Macklin III and Joseph Waldner.
