ROCKFORD, Mich.—Final rounds of training are underway at the newest restaurant opening in Rockford.

Ramona’s Table will welcome its first guests Aug. 1, beginning at 11 a.m.   The restaurant is located at the corner of Squire and Bridge, which was formerly the home of A Charmed Life boutique.  The building dates back a century, when it used to be a grain elevator and the White Pine Trail was a thoroughfare for cargo-laden trains.

Construction workers have been working on renovating the space since January.  The restaurant

pays homage to the building’s history, with the original beams, wood floors and parts of the pulley wheel on display.  Owner Jackie Ziehm says the restaurant also features a three-story atrium with skylight, as well as seating for 92 people inside and 70 people on an outdoor patio.

Employees of Ramona’s Table began moving out of their original location in East Grand Rapids’ Gaslight Village this past weekend.  Ziehm says the restaurant had outgrown the space. Rockford also had a liquor license available, allowing Ramona’s Table to add Michigan beers and wines to its farm-to-table menu, which is also growing to include small plate options.

Ziehm and her husband opened Ramona’s Table in 2007.  The restaurant now employs approximately 25 people.
