My Town Rockford: New plans for former site of Rockford Area Museum

ROCKFORD, Mich.--  The old Rockford Area Museum is no more.

Demolition of the former building at 9 East Bridge wrapped up late last month.  City officials say the property will be incorporated into Garden Club Park.  This year, it will be turned into a grassy space; next year, the city hopes to build an open-air pavilion on the space, similar to the structure on the opposite side of the dam.

Rockford’s history is not lost.  The museum moved into the old 63rd District Court building last year.  The first phase of the museum, which tells the history of Rockford, opened to the public Sept. 26.
